Mary Jo Heyen - Chair and Treasurer
Hi, I’m Mary Jo Heyen, Chair of Megan’s Kind Community, and I’m proud to help lead an organization built on spreading kindness and giving back to our local communities. I’m passionate about supporting causes close to home, including our schools, Fire/EMS, food pantries, and families in need throughout the Northwoods.
Rachelle Cota - Vice Chair
Rachel is always on the move—you might miss her if you blink! Whether she’s helping run her and her husband Jerry’s businesses, Northwoods Laundromat and Wisconsin Coating Specialist, working a Friday night at Johnny’s, or plowing driveways all winter long, she stays busy. And if that’s not enough, Rachel is also furthering her education in massage therapy. Through it all, she has a deep love for her community, and we are grateful to have her on our board helping to spread Megan’s message.
Kayla Heyen - Secretary
Diane Klein - Board Member
Kayla Is Megan’s younger sister. She is currently a special education teacher at Whitefish Bay High School where she started the transition program for 17-21 year olds.
This summer she is turning her life into a Hallmark movie - moving from Glendale WI to Mercer WI where she will be working at Tom’s Country Cafe’ learning all she can! To say Megan is over the moon to have her sister close again, is an understatement!

Diane is born and raised in Hurley WI. Diane‘a smiling face can be found at The Pines Restaurant making you your favorite cocktail while you wait for your dinner. If you are lucky enough during the winter months, she may make her wonderful pasties!

Hi! I’m Gail Orgas, I have lived in Mercer since December of 2014. I love the area immensely. I work at the Wampum Shop. I am a Brewers, Badgers, Bucks and Packers fan.

I was born in Milwaukee and moved to Mercer in 1971 when my parents, Aranka and Ernst Both, purchased the Pine Trees Hideaway resort on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage. In 1981, my husband and I opened the Little Brittany Restaurant, which is now known as The Pines Restaurant and Beer Garden. After 45 years in the restaurant business, we are excited about the prospect of retiring and spending more time with our three children and grandson.
Megan has been part of our Garden cleanup crew for __ years and is always a joy to have around. I am truly excited to being a part of Megans Kind Community and helping her spread the "Be Kind, Be Nice" message.
